PT100 simulator for simulating RTD temperature sensors.

The PT100 temperature sensor can be replaced by the PT100 simulator, then it is possible to set the temperature manual, hence manually adjust the temperature coefficient with the RTD simulator. By setting the temperature manual, it is very easy to verify correct operation of temperature alarm devices and temperature controllers in refrigeration, heating, cooling and other temperature based devices.

PT 100 simulator application

The PT100 (RTD) simulator can be used to test display's PID controllers, PLC and DCS systems and other automation equipment with a 100 ohm RTD resistance measurement input. By replacing the PT 100 with the RTD simulator, the temperature can be set by hand with the potentiometer, so the connected equipment can be checked for correct operation. This makes it very easy to check alarm set-points and temperature controller settings.

Connecting the RTD simulator:

The RTD sensor simulator has 4 connections so it is suitable for replacing 2-wire, 3-wire and 4-wire PT 100 temperature sensors. The wiring can be connected to the screw terminals at the back side. The PT 100 simulator is intended for panel mounting.

PT 100 simulator operation.

The PT100 simulator is operated by turning the axle, turning the axle anti clockwise will decrease the temperature, turning the axle clockwise will increase the temperature. Due to the easy operation, it is very easy to test alarm settings and switch points on temperature controllers, displays, loggers etc.

The temperature coefficient simulator is intended for 100 ohm resistance temperature sensor replacement and therefore based on DIN EN 60751

RTD sensor

Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs), are sensors used to measure temperature. The RTD is made from a pure material, typically platinum, nickel, or copper. The material has an accurate resistance/temperature relationship (temperature coefficient) which is used to provide an indication of temperature. Due to this temperature coefficient of the material the resistance will change when the temperature applied to the material changes. The change in resistance is measured and so the temperature is measured. The resistance is mathematically converted to the temperature by an equation.
